Eve’s Observations: January, February and December

Eve observes the plants and animals in the Dandenong Ranges and tells you what is going on!

January, February and December.

In those summer months, I have observed lots of things such as the prickly currant bush’s bright red berries that are very sweet with a seed inside them. They have been growing everywhere in the Dandenong Ranges. And have stopped producing their berries now in March.

I have also seen lots of Ibis (Bin Chickens) in flocks of twenty and flying to large grass plains like my school oval. I think its because their is less food in their natural habitat and have to find somewhere to forage.

I have also noticed the Rosy Hyacinth Orchard popping up in some places. These flowers are very rare because the seeds only grow when their is a certain type of fungi living underneath and the fungi needs to touch the orchards seed for it to grow. So their must be thousands of those seeds waiting for decades to sprout! I have found a few of those flowers growing in the dry scrub.
